A Letter From Dr. Roger Densley
Hi everyone:
This is Dr. Roger Densley writing for my wife Susanne and her skin care center. I would like to share my experiences with facial skin peels. I had the first peel about two years ago, and the results were amazing! Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t get too excited about almost anything, but this was something that had a tremendous effect on me. I’m sure that it was more than just the peel inasmuch as I had been getting fotofacial treatments before the peel as well, so it is hard to say that the peel was the only thing that made the difference. There was no question, however, that it was the real kicker that made a change.
As a dentist, I see lots of people and it was outrageous how many total strangers would stare at my face! I knew what they were looking at, and it wasn’t just my handsome mug. They would say “What is it that you do to your skin?” I had one cosmetologist patient, who you think would know, told the staff that she knew that I had had a face lift, and she knew this because of her career, or as she said “because I know these kinds of things”. Everyone was chuckling because they knew the truth.
Now I had to redo it recently because people weren’t staring at me any more and my 40th high school reunion is coming up. I just wanted all those women who turned me down for dates more than 40 years ago to get envious of me now. I couldn’t even say how many peels we sold just because they saw what it did for me. One thing I did notice is that not everyone got as good results as I did, and like I say, it might have something to do with the fotofacials as well.
We went to a seminar from the manufacturers of the fotofacial equipment, and one of the speakers was a dermatologist from Newport Beach, California. Her topic and the thrust of her presentation was that peels are the cornerstone of skin care. The cost of the treatment is really small, especially compared to the time and financial commitment with fotofacials.
Men, as a whole, just don’t care too much about their appearance. This is wrong though, because you can make a tremendous difference in your first impression if you look your best. I’ll have to admit that if it weren’t for the business I’m in, I probably wouldn’t care either, but it’s just not right. In a previous life, I would buff floors for a living, and when I was seeking new clients, I would talk to them about how important a shinny floor was for business. People may not notice the floor, but it sticks in their mind what the store looks like, and will make a decision whether to buy something there or not, based on their first impression.
So the question is not whether you need a peel, but what kind of peel do you want to have. Mine were jessners. My sister in law had a more aggressive medical peel, and I just don’t think the difference was worth the discomfort. This sounds like a really horrible experience, but in reality it’s no big deal. Maybe to some it would be a big deal, but to me it was not as bad as a sunburn. You don’t have the pain like you would with a sunburn. It isn’t nice going on, it stings a little, and you feel like you want to wash it off, but you can’t for 24 hours. The skin feels tight and dry like you want to put skin cream on it but you know that you can’t. The skin flakes off just like a sunburn too. There are plenty of alternative peels, but in my mind, unless you have something important like a speaking engagement coming up, the jessner is the only way to go. And don’t bother with the medical grade peel. I could get the supplies to do them in the skin care center, but I just don’t believe the results are worth the extra pain and downtime.

Revolutionize your skin by Susie Densley
Think you are ready for a chemical peel? There is a lot of information available about chemical peels, and a lot of choices to be made. How do you decide which one is right for you? Before you jump into the treatment chair, it is important to decide what you expect the peel to do and be emotionally ready for the transformation.
Peels are chemicals applied to the skin that cause a controlled reaction or burn. They range from light to deep, depending on the penetration of the solution. Depending on what you want the peel to do, you can experience subtle to dramatic changes in a very short amount of time.
Featuring glotherapeutics, our professional gloChemical Exfoliation treatments provide customized programs for each individual to achieve subtle, gradual or astonishing results. They are designed to stimulate a fresh appearance and improve fine lines, imperfections and discoloration. Let’s take a quick look at the peels available and what they do.
Light-Depth Peels
gloEnzyme is our lightest peel and is used to chemically exfoliate your skin. When applied, you’ll feel a short, but intense heat build up in your skin which quickly dissipates, leaving you with a radiant complexion. There is absolutely no down time. Your skin may appear pink or blushed for about an hour afterward.
gloLactic 15% is ideal for dry, dehydrated, or sun damaged skin. You’ll still feel the heat sensation as you do with the enzyme, but you have the added benefits of berry extracts that strengthen and brighten your skin, and allow it to retain more moisture. Your result is softer, smoother, more hydrated skin. Again, there is no downtime. Some even call this the lunchtime peel, because you can return to work right afterward.
gloSalicylic 30% this is a medium exfoliant, ideal for oily or acneic skin. It contains powerful antioxidants that deeply purify pores and provide healing and anti-inflammatory properties. One very important thing to recognize is that salicylic acid is used to make aspirin. So, if you have an allergy to aspirin you can not receive this peel.
gloGlycolic 30-60% this acid is best for uneven skin tone or texture, as well as oily, acneic, and sun damaged skin. If you are unable to use the salicylic peel, this would be your alternative. It comes in two levels of intensity and is recommended to be done in a series, increasing the intensity as needed to promote the repair and regeneration of your skin.
All of the above peels are light-depth. They chemically exfoliate your skin, causing your dead skin cell layer to breakdown and be removed, revealing a fresh, new complexion. They each contain unique antioxidants and ingredients to promote optimal health for your skin type and condition. There is no downtime, though you may notice slight flaking from the skin’s surface for a couple of days afterward. They work best in a series of 6 treatments, performed 1 to 2 weeks apart.
Medium-Depth Peels
gloModified Jessner 14% this is our most intense peel because it penetrates deeper into the skin and causes the top layer of your skin to shed off. Though the peel itself only takes about 30 minutes to complete, your skin renewal process will require about 7 to 9 days total. This peel is made up of several exfoliants that work together to optimize the renewal process, as well as exceptionally strong antioxidants to protect your skin’s structure. In essence, it “peels as it heals”. It evens out your skin tone and texture, smoothes, reduces sun spots and pigmentation, lessons fine lines and wrinkles, as well as hydrates and strengthens your skin. As ideal as it sounds, the recovery process can be too difficult for some people who are not emotionally prepared.
gloTCA 10% this peel is ideal for mature skin. Much like the jessner peel, it is formulated for sun damage, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation, however the skin sheds in more of a flaky manner.
